Convocation – Disability as Radical Belonging: Thinking Intersectionally as if Disability Matters

March 4, 2019 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

In this presentation I will foreground the ways in which disability challenges the every day practices of educational institutions. Both historical and contemporary practices in (higher) educational contexts construct disability as the outside of educational space even while the very logic of disability animates that space. Additionally, I will use an intersectional lens to demonstrate ways in which ableist politics intersect with the politics of race, class, and gender to reproduce and/or exacerbate other forms of oppression in (higher) educational contexts. The presentation will conclude with participants collectively re-imagining disability as radical belonging via transformative (higher) educational policy and praxis.
