There will be all kinds of tea and some lemonade to drink, and you can go an introduce yourself to the Blount 101 professors. Professors will be there to give some advice on their classes and get to know the students before the year starts.
RA RAchel Kleman will bring the stash of Blount games in the lobby, but everyone is encouraged to bring their favorite game as well. Chicken Nuggets will be provided for residents to snack on.
The academic linchpin of the Blount Scholars Program is a minor in "Liberal Arts". Minors, however, are disciplinary designations defined, broadly, by their objects of knowledge and methods. So defined, the liberal arts is not a discipline. This talk will examine in what sense Blount is a liberal arts program and what, more particularly, its
RA Parker Renton will create a price is right game using weird (but appropriate) random junk from the internet to create a price is right so floors may compete and earn points for floor wars. Pizza and soda will be provided.
Blount alumni with different career paths will answer questions from current students in Tuomey Hall starting at 3:30pm. The panel will end around 5:00pm and a reception will begin in Oliver-Barnard Hall that will enable students to meet and speak further with the alumni.
This program will consist of a series of "stations" throughout the Blount lobby and classrooms where students can receive tutoring, writing editing, and resume critiques from the Writing Center, the Center for Academic success, as well as the Career Center. This program will be hosted the day before the first Blount essay is due to
RA Parker wants to encourage students living in the Blount dorm to spread their musical wings with the Faculty in Residence, Nathan Parker. Bring your instruments, or just come to listen. We will gather around the grand piano in the lobby.
